Best authentication/security and other Pandora settings for IMAP? Empty Best authentication/security and other Pandora settings for IMAP?

Tue May 14, 2024 4:23 am
My Australian email provider, Optus, recommends authentication settings for outgoing mail, to avoid non-delivery, and rejection as spam. Optus provides settings for iPhone, MS Outlook, Thunderbird, Gmail client, and Apple Mail Client. Nothing for Pandora.

Some of my outgoing mail is never delivered, without any alert of a problem; occasionally other outgoing mail is rejected as spam. So I'm keen to fix that. When I set up Pandora in 2019, Brana mentioned Thunderbird as sharing some settings with Pandora. Optus provides the following advice for Thunderbird:

   1. Open the Thunderbird client and, under the Server settings, verify the configuration
       Server Type: IMAP Mail Server
       Server Name: mail.optusnet.com.au
       Port: 993
       User Name: username
       Security Settings
           Connection security: STARTTLS
           Authentication method: Normal password
Server Settings (tick all three boxes)
Check for new messages at startup
Check for new messages every 10 minutes
Allow immediate server notification when new messages arrive
  2. Verify the settings
Optusnet SMTP server - mail.optusnet.com.au (Default)
   3. Verify SMTP settings
       Description: Optusnet SMTP server
       Server Name: mail.optusnet.com.au
       Port: 25
       Connection security: STARTTLS
       Authentication method: Normal password
       User Name: username
   Click OK

Can Brana, Butch, or anyone else offer advice please?

Davo,

It is not surprise that your ISP does not give setup instructions for Pandora or Eudora.  Most likely their Technical Support folks have never heard of Pandora and they probably think Eudora is dead.

When making a Pandora Personality, these should be the connection settings:

  • The Username field should be the complete email address: Username@domain-name.tld.
  • The Password field should be the password assigned to the email address.
  • The Secure Sockets when Receiving or Sending should be Always.
  • The Port should be 995 for Pop, 993 for Imap, and 465 or 557 for Sending.
  • For Checking Mail, check the option Include of global check to have mail for the Personality checked when the Check Mail menu icon is clicked.
  • For Sending Mail, check the option Include on global send to have queued mail for the Personality sent when the Action|Send Queued Messages menu item is clicked.
  • The Authentication should be Basic unless the email vendor supports OAuth2.

Regards,

Butch
